Tips For Getting the Most Out of Your 1:1 Singing Lessons
Tip #1
Be willing to step outside of your comfort zone.
It is natural to feel shy at first when it comes to singing. The good news is that the more often you step out of your comfort zone, the easier it gets! Some exercises will feel odd or silly at first, but give them time and I promise they will feel right and even natural with time! each exercise has a purpose, and we only grow if we are willing to try new things and change challenge our pre-conceived ideas and habits. So go for it, try things in a new way!
Tip # 2
Practice between lessons is key!
In each lesson, we will cover foundations and technique as well as go over how they can be applied more specifically to your voice and to help you reach your goals. Your lesson is one piece of the puzzle. When it comes down to it, you will need to spend time in between lessons applying what you are learned for it to stick and to truly see the benefits. Set aside some practice time a few times a week, even if it is a quick 20 minute practice session here and there. It WILL make a difference and you will see progress more quickly.
Tip #3
Be patient with yourself and the process.
As you are developing new skills, you may notice that some days you feel like you are “getting it” more than other days. The voice is a very finicky instrument that is effected by many things including hydration, sleep, allergens, fatigue etc. Some days you will feel on top of the world and other days you will feel set back. As long as you stick with it, you will experience more forward progression over time. Also, making mistakes along the way is OKAY and part of the process. The great thing about making mistakes is that you can simply try again, so please above all else, have patience with yourself and enjoy the process.
